The Customer
Kuen Yuh Machinery Company Ltd (KYMC), which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2018, is one of Asia’s most respected manufacturers of roll to roll technology for the printing and converting
markets. Its uses rotogravure, inline, CI, and stack flexo presses, as well as coating and laminating lines to produce a variety of packaging for international groups including Amcor, ProAmpac, International Paper, Novolex, and Detmold.
The Product
One of the most recent developments has seen KYMC move into the market for flexible electronics – the printed transparent conductive film used for touchscreens on, for example, smartphones, tablets, and other computer technology.
The Problem
Because of the highly sensitive nature of the substrate, a degree of precision is required that involves absolute control of the production process, with zero tolerance of variation.
Previous manufacturing practice
One of KYMC’s customers was experiencing problems with humidity and this was creating variations in the quality of the finished film.
The solution
After investigating what surface treatment could offer, KYMC turned to Vetaphone to design and install a bespoke Corona system that met the requirements of the customer precisely, and overcame the problems associated with humidity. All Vetaphone systems do this by separating the power unit from the treater unit.
The result
By establishing a close synergy between the R&D departments at KYMC and Vetaphone, the two companies are working jointly on new projects that will improve the performance of print, coating and laminating technology for customers operating in the most testing of environmental conditions.
